To come up with a logo that represents your own work is not an easy job. In 2014 I started the studio and with my roots in product design and a passion for illustration I knew I didn’t want to restrict myself to only small meaningless drawings. I wanted the studio to represent more than “that’s the guy that makes cool drawings”. Studio Van Geem is a brand, a webshop with cool gadgets and a company that thinks beyond bounderies. Thats’s why I came up with the name ‘STUDIO VAN GEEM – Beyond Illustration”‘
As a person I wanted to stay true to my roots as a product designer, a craftsman and an artist. When I was younger I lived in an analog world, a world of pumpmarkers and graffiti. A world of wood, saw and bear hands. In 2012 Mark Goss, British artist and founder of ‘Fiend Projects’, asked me to be part of the major ‘Fiend Projects Art Festival’ in Antwerp. Throughout the 3 weeks that the event was on there were exhibitions, demontrations, workshops, film showings and artist talks, all designed to expose young up and coming artists and to engage the people of Antwerp in an art extravaganza.
These days I was doing projects with artists like Mark Goss, Toy Factory, Jan Werkt, Dzia, Locatelli Steve, Gijs Vanhee and many more. One by one great personalities that inspired me and pushed me to develop my own style. A style that is still the foundation of my work as an illustrator today.
So for the people that wonder what the idea is behind the studio’s logo, take a look at the images below and you’ ll see!
